The Lincolnshire Wolds – a Dragon in the Sky!

When travelling to the coast there is an alternative route to driving through Woodhall Spa and Horncastle. Next time you head to the sandy beaches of Sutton on Sea and Sandilands, consider going via the road less travelled, through Bardney, Baumber and Belchford, and thence up the escarpment onto the Blue Stone Ridge Road and across the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. One of the prettiest villages you can pass through is Tetford and also the adjacent village of Somersby, birthplace in 1809 of the great Lincolnshire poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson. The vista from the ridge to the west and Lincoln cathedral is magnificent, especially with the sun behind you in the morning. In showery conditions you may even see a dragon rising out of a thundercloud, shown in this formation reacting to the paraglider below! An example of why Lincolnshire, and especially the Wolds area, is famed for its skies; sometimes dramatic in the daytime and pleasantly dark at night.
