The Historic town of Newark

Situated centrally between the historic towns of Lincoln, Sleaford, Grantham and Newark, Hilltop Farm offers visitors convenient access to a rich variety of heritage destinations. Newark, in particular, is undergoing significant enhancement.

Newark Castle is currently the focus of an extensive restoration project designed to bring its 900‑year history to life. In due course, visitors will be able to step inside reconstructed medieval rooms, explore newly created gallery spaces with lift access, engage with immersive interpretive displays, and ascend to a tower‑top viewing platform offering impressive views across the Trent Valley.

The Castle’s Victorian gardens are also being carefully restored. A new lighting scheme will enhance the architectural features for evening visits, with floodlighting to illuminate the stonework and subtle path lighting to guide visitors through the grounds. Additional wildflower planting will introduce seasonal colour while supporting local wildlife through improved habitats.

Directly opposite the renovated gatehouse you will find The Castle Barge, located on the river, which provides quayside seating with views along the Trent and across to the redeveloped waterside buildings. The towpath along the river also offers a pleasant route for exploring further areas of the town.

This riverside quarter of Newark contains several excellent dining options and is only a 20‑minute journey from Hilltop Farm.
