Changing Landscapes

For sixty years a major feature on the River Trent has been the Cotham Power Station, some 25 miles away from Hilltop Farm. It is usually invisible in cloudy conditions, but when the air is clear it has been an icon of power generation that cannot be missed. Some appreciate our industrial legacies which we have known as part of our world throughout or lives. But one less on the River Trent will add to the spacious and open feel of the landscape viewed from our Lincoln Cliff Edge location. On 20th March explosions hit the site and the tall smoke stack and associated buildings were brought down. The cooling towers will follow in the next year. Lincolnshire is famous for its big skies and uncluttered landscape. This view across to Sherwood Forest and the Pennine hills at least will be improved. Happily the concrete can be crushed and reused for road base and other construction, reducing the high environmental cost of mining for the raw materials.
