The Redwing is a beautifully marked thrush, little larger than a starling. It breeds in Iceland and in the far north of Europe. Most years we see them arrive on the farm from mid October, but 2022 has brought us a very early group on 25th September. Does this herald a cold winter to come? Perhaps, but more likely they have an eye on the bumper crop of hedgerow berries on which they feed all winter before departing again in March. The period up to early December is one of the most colourful of the year and a good time to go out with the camera around Lincolnshire to get great photos.
